PETERSBURG CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS TRANSPORTATION
The Department of Transportation looks forward to working with parents and students to ensure safe ridership to and from our schools. Parents with questions regarding routing, schedules, or bus stops should call the student’s assigned school, or the Transportation Department customer service department.
Parents/guardians are an intricate part of the students’ safety enroute to and from the school bus stop, it is important for students who are unfamiliar with their surroundings, (ie…how to get from home to the stop in the morning, or from the stop to home in the afternoon) have a parent, guardian or other responsible adult to accompany them to their destination.
PCPS drivers are trained to become familiar with students as well as parents at the bus stop, if a student tells a driver that they do not feel safe getting off the bus, the driver will return the student to the school in the afternoon, where the parent/guardian will pick them up. Drivers will not allow Pre-K or Kindergarten students off of the bus under any circumstance without an authorized adult or authorized older sibling being at the stop. If these criteria are not met the student will be returned to the school and will have to wait for
a parent/guardian to pick them up.
The school bus and the school bus stops are extensions of the school building which means the expectations of students to follow all applicable rules, policies and guidelines in accordance with the student code of conduct and other school board rules is expected at all times. If a student is suspended from riding the bus, it is the parent/guardian responsibility to ensure a student gets to and from school. Suspension from a school bus does not mean a student is suspended from school.
Students are required to have one stop for pick up and one stop for drop-off, if a student needs to ride a different bus because of an emergency the parent must provide the school with a written note to include the parent’s name and contact number. This note is good for no more than two days.
