Become a Substitute
Substitute Teaching
The district uses Frontline/Absence Management for the recording of all absences and the dispatching of all substitute teachers. Policy GCE requirements to become a substitute teacher in Petersburg City Public Schools:
- be at least 18 years old, with preference given to persons 21 years old or older
- possess good moral character
- hold a high school diploma or have passed a high school equivalency examination approved by the Board of Education
- attend orientation to learn about school policies and procedures
Process
- Completion of online application (w/transcripts, resume, and 2 references)
- Evidence of a negative tuberculin test (or chest X-ray)

- A criminal background check
- Completion of all 6 modules
- Cultural Awareness module
- Behavior Intervention module
- Dyslexia module
- Child abuse recognition
- Meaningful IEP's
- Building a more inclusive school community
- If you have CPR/first aid/AED training, please provide a copy of your card/certificate. (preferred)
- Long term substitute recommendations are made by building level Principals and approved by the School Board. Long-term substitutes work 21 or more consecutive days.
- Once approved, you will receive an email with your login information for Frontline.
Rate of Pay
New substitutes will be paid only upon becoming an active substitute in our system and working at least one day:
- Substitute clerical/secretarial staff: $95.00 per day
- Substitute teachers without a degree $100.00 per day
- Substitute teachers with a 2 year degree: $102.50 per day
- Substitute teachers with at least a 4 year degree: $110.00 per day
- Substitute teachers (Long-Term) without a degree or 2 year degree or 60credit hours $150.00 per day (Board approval required)
- Substitute teachers (Long-Term) with a 4 year degree $210.00 per day (Board approval required)
- Substitute Instructional Assistants/Paraprofessional (teacher's aide): $100 per day
- Substitute nurses: LPN $110/day, RN $125/day

- Registration-Orientation is facilitated at the Administrative Office
Orientation is every Wednesday at 11 am in person, unless Schools and Offices are closed.
