Accountability and Data
Welcome to the Testing and Accountability Department
The mission of the Testing and Accountability Department is to use technology to support a culture of data-driven decision-making that relies upon data to evaluate and improve teaching and learning.
The Testing and Accountability Department oversees the administration of various assessments to help gauge teaching and learning. These assessments include:
- Growth Assessments
- Division Benchmarks
- Project Based Assessments (PBA)
- Standard of Learning (SOLs)
- WIDA ACCESS for ELLs
- Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening (PALS)
- Virginia Alternate Assessment Program (VAAP)
The data from the above assessments helps to guide school improvement, professional development, parental involvement, and tutoring. Quality data is provided to all stakeholders throughout the year.
SOL Practice Items
These practice items provide examples of the new content and increased rigor represented by the revised Standards of Learning (SOL) and illustrate the new Technology-Enhanced Item types.
The Standards of Learning and Curriculum Framework comprises the content that teachers in Virginia are expected to teach and students are expected to learn. Click on the content areas below to view information from VDOE.
Released tests and test items are representative of the content and skills included in the SOL assessments and present the format of the tests and questions.
Petersburg City Public Schools may allow qualified individuals and/or organizations to conduct research, surveys, and evaluation projects that are aligned with school division goals and objectives and that have the potential for improving teaching and learning, for providing immediate, practical implications for improving educational outcomes for children, and for improving staff and program effectiveness. Applications to conduct research studies may be submitted throughout the year; however, applications will only be reviewed three times a year. Applications will be reviewed July-August; November-December; and March- April. Applications should be submitted at least three weeks before the end of the review cycle or the application will not be reviewed until the next review cycle.
